These Black Bean Burgers are so easy to make. They come together in less than 25 minutes and are so delicious! Even meat-eaters will love these burgers!
I’ve been scouring the internet for a good veggie burger recipe, but almost all of them involve some sort of bread crumbs which doesn’t work for me since I’m gluten free.
So I decided to make my own little concoction using a similar style that I use to make my Salmon Burgers by using gluten free Panko to hold these beauties together.
I started out with a can of Black Beans (rinsed and drained).
Then I started mashing the beans away with a fork. I sort of half mashed them if that makes any sense. I like to have some of the beans whole in my burger for texture. But you can mash them up more if you like. 🙂

Chipotle Chili Powder
Mix away and form into patties!
Now it’s important to note that whatever size you make the patties will be the same size after they’re cooked. They don’t shrink when cooked like regular burgers.
So make em to fit the buns!
Btw, my favorite Gluten Free bun to use at the moment is Canyon Bakehouse. You can usually find these at Target in the bakery section, or in the freezer section of your local grocery store. The buns hold together really well and taste like a real bun (if you’ve ever had a gluten free bun crumble apart or taste like cardboard then you know what I mean).
When frying these burgers I like to use Avocado Oil.
Avocado oil has a smooth, buttery flavor, and a smoke point of up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. It also gives these burgers a really good flavor!

- 1 15oz can Black Beans, drained and rinsed
- 2-3 Tbs finely chopped Shallots
- 1 cup gluten free Panko
- 1 Egg
- 1 clove minced Garlic
- ¼ tsp Chipotle Chili Powder
- 2 tsp Cumin
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
- ¼ tsp Sea Salt
- ¼ tsp Black Pepper
- 2-3 Tbs Avocado Oil
- In a medium size bowl add Black Beans and smash with a fork until semi-mushy (you can leave a few beans whole for texture).
- Add Shallots.
- Add Panko.
- Add Egg.
- Add Garlic.
- Add Chipotle Chili Powder, Cumin, Paprika, Salt, and Pepper.
- Mix well and form into 4 patties.
- In a 9 inch skillet add Avocado Oil and heat over med-high heat.
- Add patties to the hot pan.
- Cook 7 minutes on each side.
- Add burgers to your favorite gluten free bun and toppings of your choice.
