I love a good banana bread, especially if it has chocolate chips in it! Since I went Gluten Free several years ago, I thought my banana bread eating days were over.

Well I finally figured out how to make a really good Chocolate Chip Banana Bread that is Gluten Free using Almond Flour! If you’re looking for other Gluten Free breads, try my Cranberry Banana Bread or my Pumpkin Bread!

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe Ingredients

  • 3 Ripe Bananas mashed
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 3 Eggs
  • 2 1/4 cup Almond Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • non-stick cooking spray

How to Ripen Bananas for Banana Bread

The key to a really good sweetened banana bread is to use very ripe bananas. As in they are almost black in color on the outside.

I often buy bananas ahead of time and when they are ripe I will put them in a freezer bag and freeze them until I’m ready to make banana bread. They just need to thaw out for about 30 minutes until used.

Don’t have ripe bananas? There are a few ways you can speed up the ripening process.

  1. Place them in a brown paper bag a day or two beforehand. This process blocks enough oxygen which allows them to release a chemical called ethylene and speeds up ripening.
  2. You can bake them. Place bananas on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. They are ready once they are browned.
  3. You can also microwave them. Pierce them with a fork a few times, then microwave 30 seconds – 1 minute.

  2. In a large bowl whisk together Bananas, Maple Syrup, Vanilla, and Eggs.
  3. In a smaller bowl mix together Almond Flour, Baking Soda, and Salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  5. Fold in the Chocolate Chips saving some to sprinkle on top.
  6. Spray loaf pan with non-stick baking spray.
  7. Pour batter into pan.
  8. Sprinkle more Chocolate Chips on top.
  9. Bake 45-50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean after sticking it in the center.
  10. Let it rest for 1 hour before slicing.

How to Store Gluten Free Banana Bread

Place sliced Banana Bread in an airtight storage container. You can store it on the counter for up to 5 days, or in the fridge for up to 10 days.

How to Freeze Banana Bread

Arrange the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Place it in the freezer for about 30 minutes or until they are frozen.

Put the frozen slices in a freezer bag or container and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to eat them, just let them thaw out on the counter or microwave until warmed.

It’s very important to let the Banana Bread rest for at least 1 hour before slicing into, as it needs this time to set.

Can you sub a full cup of almond flour or 1/2c GF flour to 1/2c almond flour if you don’t have cockunut flour on hand?

Hi Samantha, I have not tried that conversion, so I can’t say if the results would be the same. If you do try it, let me know how it works!
