I’m always in search of the perfect Mojito when I go to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I love Old San Juan, the food, the music, the drinks, I mean what’s not to love!
If you want to know more about my tastefulventures in Old San Juan, then head on over to the new Travel section of my blog. I talk about the best attractions to see, give some good travel tips, and of course talk about the best things to eat. I’m super excited about this!
San Juan has THE best Mojitos then anywhere else in the world! There’s so many different varieties too. You can have anything from a lemon grass mojito to an acai mojito.
I’m normally not a big rum drinker, but I do like the occasional mojito, especially while sitting patio side in Old San Juan on a hot day!
So I decided to pick up some rum in Puerto Rico, I mean how could I not?! This is where they make the stuff. Yes you can buy rum in the States, but I was able to purchase it at a fraction of the price in Puerto Rico since it was Duty Free! Woohoo!
To make this perfect mojito you need limes, fresh mint, simple syrup, club soda, and of course rum. I found simple syrup at my local liquor store in the mix section. If you don’t have simple syrup you can replace it with 2 parts sugar and 1 part water by stirring the sugar and water mixture over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
Oh and I forgot to mention you need a Muddler, ‘muddler’ – I just love saying that word. 😛
If you don’t have a muddler you can use the back of wooden spoon handle.
This is my favorite part of making a mojito, muddling the limes and the mint together. The aroma from the limes and the mint mixed is amazing, and always makes me feel like I’m back in Old San Juan, sitting in one of the open air cafes with a mojito in hand. 🙂
Enjoy!
