This Mexican Shrimp Cocktail, also known as Coctel de Camarones, is such a fun appetizer to make! Put them in little individual cups so guests can serve themselves. It’s sure to be a hit at any party!

What is Mexican Shrimp Cocktail?
If you have never had this type of Shrimp Cocktail, then you are in for a real treat! It’s nothing like the American Shrimp Cocktail, and honestly I think it’s better!
I mean, what’s not to love? It’s made with crunchy vegetables, shrimp, and mixed in a spicy yet tangy tomato sauce. You can serve it with chips, crackers, or whatever else you desire!
Not only is this great for Christmas or New Year’s Eve parties, but it’s also a hit for Super Bowl parties, Cinco de Mayo, and summer BBQs. So it can be enjoyed year-round!

Mexican Shrimp Cocktail Ingredients
- 1 lb Raw Shrimp (if you are using cooked shrimp, see notes in the recipe card)
- 1 Tbs Sea Salt
- 3 Large Tomatoes chopped
- 1 cup Red Onion chopped
- 1 cup Cucumber chopped
- 2 Celery stalks chopped
- 1 Jalapeño finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Cilantro finely chopped
- 1/2 cup Ketchup
- Juice from 1 Lime
- 1 Tbs Tabasco or more per your spice level
- 1 Avocado chopped

How to Make Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
Peel and devein the Shrimp. Bring a medium pot with water to a boil. Add 1 Tbs Sea Salt and the Shrimp.
Cook 2-3 minutes or until Shrimp are cooked through, reserve 1 cup of the water and let it come to room temperature.
Remove the Shrimp and let cool, then chop into pieces.

In a medium bowl, add Tomatoes, Red Onion, Cucumber, Celery, Jalapeño, Cilantro, Ketchup, Lime Juice, Tabasco, and Shrimp.
Mix and add some of the Shrimp water a little bit at a time to the desired consistency. I used around 1/4 cup. Taste and add more Tabasco if you like it spicier. Mix in the Avocado and refrigerate for about an hour before serving.
How to Serve Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
When making this for a party, I would recommend placing these cups in a shallow dish with ice to keep them chilled so people can serve themselves. If that’s not an option, keep them in the fridge until ready to serve. You can refrigerate this for up to 1 day.

Made this for a family (adults and children) gathering and it was consumed quickly with requests for more. Served in a martini style cup with 2 xtra large shrimp hanging over the side. We will me making this often.
