Coctel de Camarones

If you have never had this type of Shrimp Cocktail then you are in for a real treat! It’s nothing like the American Shrimp Cocktail, honestly I think it’s better!

I mean what’s not to love, it’s made with crunchy vegetables, shrimp and mixed in a spicy yet tangy tomato sauce. You can serve it with chips, crackers or whatever else you desire!

Not only is this great for Christmas or New Year’s Eve parties, it’s also a hit for Super Bowl parties, Cinco de Mayo and summer bbq’s. So it can be enjoyed year-round!

How to Make Mexican Shrimp Cocktail (Coctel de Camarones)

Peel and devein the Shrimp. Bring a medium pot with water to a boil. Add 1 Tbs Sea Salt and the Shrimp.

Cook 2-3 minutes or until Shrimp are cooked through, reserve 1 cup of the water and let it come to room temperature.

Remove the Shrimp and let cool, then chop into pieces.

In a medium bowl add Tomatoes, Red Onion, Cucumber, Celery, Jalapeño, Cilantro, Ketchup, Lime Juice, Tabasco and Shrimp.

Mix and add some of the Shrimp water a little bit at a time to desired consistency, I used around 1/4 cup. Taste and add more Tabasco if you like it spicier. Mix in the Avocado and refrigerate about an hour before serving.

How to Serve Mexican Shrimp Cocktail

When making this for a party I would recommend placing these cups in a shallow dish with ice to keep them chilled so people can serve themselves. If that’s not an option, keep them in the fridge until ready to serve. You can refrigerate this for up to 1 day.

Made this for a family (adults and children) gathering and it was consumed quickly with requests for more. Served in a martini style cup with 2 xtra large shrimp hanging over the side. We will me making this often.
