Happy Holidays everyone! I thought I would end the week with a yummy cocktail recipe! This Festive Cranberry Margarita is perfect for any holiday get together.
After being in Mexico over Thanksgiving, it really inspired me to make more Mexican recipes.
One of our cruise stops was Cabo San Lucas (spoiler- travel post coming soon on this). I loved Cabo. It’s probably one of my favorite cities to visit in Mexico.
Since we were in Cabo for the day, we of course had to go check out Cabo Wabo Cantina which is Sammy Hagar’s famous bar.
Normally I’m not a huge fan of Tequila, but after having a Caborita there I was hooked! A Caborita was their version of a Margarita with Cranberry. There’s just something so great about the flavors of Cranberry and Lime that just blend together so well.
I think I was never a fan of Tequila because I had never had good Tequila. My only experience with Tequila was in high school. Someone had a bottle of some cheap gold colored Tequila with a worm in it and was passing it around at a party, so of course I had to partake in that. Blaah! I was sick for like 2 days after this and swore off Tequila forever.
Now 20 some years later and being in Mexico, I thought I would give Tequila another chance. I mean, when you’re in Mexico… you have to have Tequila right?!
I learned it definitely makes a difference on what Tequila you use. Top shelf is a must if you want a smooth tasting drink and don’t want to wake up with an extreme headache the next day.
After coming home from Cabo I was on a mission to create my own version of a Caborita. So I went to the liquor store and purchased Sammy’s Cabo Wabo Tequila. There were 2 different kinds, Silver and Gold. I chose the Silver for this recipe.
I love using my Mason Jars for cocktails, so if you’re using a smaller glass you may need to adjust the recipe a bit. But you should really use Mason Jars, because it just looks so cool and festive! 🙂
To make this, just line the rim of your mason jar with a lime or you could just use water, but the lime gives it more flavor if you like to lick the salted rim before drinking.
Dip the rim in a plate of Sea Salt and coat the rim evenly.
Fill the jars with ice.
Fill a cocktail shaker with a bit of ice, Lime Juice, Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, and Tequila. Shake it up and strain it into your mason jar. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you can add the juices and Tequila into the mason jar and just give it a good stir.
Garnish with fresh Cranberries and a Lime Wheel and serve!
Now just a note, I used the juice fresh from Limes and Oranges. I think it really makes a big difference in flavor using the fresh fruits for this. If you use a concentrated juice, you’re not going to get the same fresh taste. For the Cranberry Juice I chose an Organic brand that was unsweetened.
If you like your Margaritas a bit sweeter you can also add a little Stevia to this. I prefer mine slightly bitter, so I never add sugar.
If you try this cocktail, let me know what you think! I love hearing everyone’s comments, so feel free to drop me a line below!
Happy Holidays and Cheers!
