Summer’s not over yet, time to pack up the car and hit the road! For those who believe the journey is as much fun as the destination, the road trip is really the way to travel this summer.
I love taking road trips, it’s such a great way to explore and see more of the country. I’ve taken several road trips over the years and decided to put together a list of 10 necessities for every road trip.
1: Cell Phone and charger
I use and recommend the Samsung Galaxy GS8 and S8+. I love it because it takes high quality pictures, which means I don’t have to lug around my big camera. And it has the world’s first Infinity Screen, the screen stretches from edge to edge. The Galaxy S8+ is even more expansive and has biggest screen yet!
Plus this phone is water resistance, it has an IP68 water resistant rating. So basically it can resist a splash or accidental dunk.
It also has fast wireless charging so it won’t slow you down, you can power up without having to plug in. Charger is sold separately.
You can also get a Micro SD Card which expands your storage up to 256GB. MicroSD card sold separately.
Another great feature is that the The Samsung Galaxy S8 is unlocked. Unlocked by Samsung lets you pick more than just your smartphone. You can choose your carrier, data plan, services, features and apps, so you can get your phone exactly the way you want it. Side note: you can only order this phone online, which you can get at Walmart.
Unlocked by Samsung smartphones work on multiple U.S. networks, so you have the freedom to pick a carrier and plan that fits your life. When you’re ready for an adventure or a road trip, – just pop in a compatible SIM card and take your device anywhere.
Unlocked by Samsung guarantees your new smartphone lives up to the exceptional standards you expect from Samsung. You’ll also get extra peace of mind because all Unlocked by Samsung smartphones come with a standard U.S. limited warranty.
2: Cell Phone Mount
Get your phone out of your hands and have it on a mount placed on your dashboard. This makes it much more convenient when you’re using your GPS to guide you.
3: First Aid Kit and Car Emergency Kit
In case anything happens to you or your car, you don’t want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere in need of help.
4: Cash
Including quarters for unexpected tolls, parking meters, or vending machines at rest stops.
5: Cooler
For drinks and snacks. These can be pricey at convenience stores and can really add up. Stock up on water and healthy non-perishable snacks before you hit the road. And if you have anyone that gets motion sickness, take along some ginger candy or ginger gum, this can work wonders.
6: Hand Sanitizer
Have you ever stopped at a rest stop or gas station only to find out there’s no hand soap in the bathroom? Umm yeah… not fun. I always keep plenty of hand sanitizer in my car for this reason.
7: Sneakers
Because you want to be as comfortable as you can be while driving. And if you’re doing a lot of stops along the way to sight see, you definitely want a good pair of shoes that won’t hurt your feet while walking a lot.
8: Sunglasses
A good pair of shades can be your best friend while driving. Especially if you’re on an east to west journey. Forget the cheap shades you can pick up at any gas station. Instead opt for a really good quality pair that will block out UV Rays.
9: Light Jacket
A light jacket, hoodie, and a rain jacket are a must. It’s all about comfort here when you’re in the car for a long period of time. Even though it’s summer, nights can be chilly depending on where you’re traveling to.
10: Full Size Spare Tire
Yes tiny donut spare tires will work if you get a flat, but you’ll be stuck going under 50 mph which can be a little scary on the freeway when traffic is speeding up behind you. Upgrade to a full size tire and make sure it’s in good condition and has air. I made the mistake once of not checking to see if my spare tire had air, I mean I owned my car for a few years and never had a flat. The day I got a flat tire I found out my spare tire was flat. Oops.
Cheers and happy traveling friends!
