If you’ve ever wondered How to Cook Spaghetti Squash, I’ve put together an easy step by step for this. It’s super easy and is a great lower calorie, gluten free option to regular pasta. It’s so versatile, you can eat it as is or mix it in with your favorite sauces!

How to Cook Spaghetti Squash

I actually did a tutorial on How to make Acorn Squash a while back which got me thinking… hmmm I need to make a tutorial for you guys on how to make Spaghetti Squash!

If you’re new to the blog, I actually have a whole ‘How To’ section that has different helpful hints and tips on how to make a variety of foods. I’d love for you to check it out!

Also, if there’s anything you’ve been wanting to learn about cooking, such as tips, how to, etc. Drop me a line and let me know what you want to see! You could either reply to this email if you’re on the email list, or simply leave a comment below!

How to Cut Spaghetti Squash

Grab a non-slip cutting board and your best chef’s knife. Tip: If you don’t have a non-slip cutting board, place a damp paper towel under your cutting board. Works like a charm!

Take the Spaghetti Squash and cut in half length wise.

Scoop out the seeds, (it kind of reminds me of carving a pumpkin!)

How to Bake Spaghetti Squash

There are a few ways to cook Spaghetti Squash, but baking it is definitely my favorite way! I find it has the best carmelized flavor.

First, Brush the insides with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Sprinkle with Sea Salt and Pepper, then place Squash cut side down on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-35 minutes until the inside of the Squash pierces easily with a fork. Baking time will depend on the size of your Squash.

Flip the cooked Squash over.

Now the fun part, take a fork and start scraping the insides of the Squash.

I think it’s so cool to watch Spaghetti shaped ‘noodles’ being created from this. Hey it’s the little things right?

How to Microwave Spaghetti Squash

Now if you want to save time, simply microwave the squash by following the steps above, but place the squash cut side down on a microwave safe baking dish.

Fill the dish with 1 inch of water, which will create steam in the microwave. Microwave on high for 15 minutes. If it’s not cooked enough, cook for another 5 minutes, or until tender in the middle.

Carefully remove the Squash from the microwave, and allow to cool for a few minutes before handling.

Take a fork and starting scraping the insides to form spaghetti strands!

Storage Tips

  • To Store: Cooked Spaghetti Squash will keep well in the fridge, covered, for up to 5 days.
  • To Reheat: Rewarm cooked Spaghetti Squash in a skillet on the stovetop over medium low heat, with a little olive oil.
  • To Freeze: You can freeze Spaghetti Squash but it will become quite soggy, so I do not recommend this. You can freeze them in an airtight freezer container for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
