These Blackened Flank Steak Tacos with Avocado Lime Sauce are so incredibly tender and flavorful! This will definitely kick up your next taco night!
I have been using my Homemade Blackened Seasoning on everything lately. I’ve used it on Shrimp, Chicken, Fish, and now for these steak tacos!
You can make the Blackened Seasoning ahead of time, I usually always have a jar on hand. All you need is:
- 2 Tbs ground Smoked Paprika
- 1 tsp ground Cayenne
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp dried Oregano
- 2 tsp Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
Then sprinkle the seasoning generously over the Flank Steak and rub it in on all sides to coat it well. Let steak rest at room temperature for 30 minutes prior to grilling. While steak is resting make the Avocado Lime Sauce!
Add all ingredients for the Avocado Lime Sauce to a large food processor and blend until smooth and creamy, you may need to add more Avocado Oil depending on how creamy you like it.
Taste and add more Salt or Pepper if desired, set aside.
Heat grill to med/high heat or about 400F. Grill Flank Steak over direct heat 5-7 minutes each side until internal temp is 135F for medium rare (see notes in the recipe card for other cooking temps).
Remove and let rest for 5 minutes.
Heat Tortilla shells on the grill for 1-2 minutes each side until slightly crisp.
Now the key to making the Flank Steak nice and tender is to slice it very thin. The first time I made this I made the mistake of cutting it up too thick and found it hard to chew. So cut as thin as you can!
Make your tacos and top with the Avocado Lime Sauce. I also topped these with Pico De Gallo, Cotija Cheese, and Cilantro. But you can use whatever else you want to add!

Notes
If you have leftover Blackened Seasoning you can store it in an air tight container in the cupboard with your other spices.
If you don’t like your steak medium rare, just cook a little longer. See cooking temps below, also note it depends on the thickness of your steak to how many minutes to cook on each side. I find it helpful to use a good digital thermometer to test the doneness.
- 120 – 130 degrees F = Rare
- 130 – 140 degrees F = Medium Rare
- 140 – 150 degrees F = Medium
- 160 – 170 degrees F = Well Done
